Connectivity

Webmastermedia utilizes a scalable, redundant "bandwidth-on-demand" solution. Depending on network traffic and nationwide bottleneck status, our web server traffic is routed down one or more of four DS3 circuits - capable of up to 180Mbps total throughput. These circuits are provided by MCI/UUnet, Sprint, and AT&T. You are literally hosting your web application on a zero-hop Internet backbone. Our bandwidth allocation is on-demand, allowing us to always have the necessary bandwidth available for your web site.

Webmaster uses only Cisco routing and switching equipment. Every server is fed into dual Catalyst 2900 high speed switches that channel all server traffic into two Cisco 12000 series routers, using BGP4 routing protocol for complete redundancy. If one router should have an equipment failure, the other one picks up the traffic. This lowers the possibility of network downtime due to an equipment failure.

Unlike any other hosting company, if our servers or network are down for more than five minutes, our monitoring servers will notify you via an e-mail (to whatever e-mail address you like, including a pager or cell phone!) that you are experiencing an interruption in service. We have monitoring servers watching our network from both inside and outside of our data centre, so you will be notified even in the extremely unlikely event our data centre was to lose connectivity.

In addition to the network monitoring and notification above, we also provide a method by which you can monitor any aspect of your site you wish, and be automatically notified via e-mail if your site test fails. Our monitors are configured to poll a specific page on your site every five minutes. If this page does not return the word "success" somewhere in its text when called by our monitors, you will be notified immediately via e-mail that your site test is failing.  

Reliability

99.93% average uptime... Your site will be fully redundant. We are connected to a 750KVa diesel generator for long-term fail-over in the event of a power failure. Additionally, we are located on two diverse power grids within the city. Should we have a city-wide power grid failure, the second grid will cycle within a matter of minutes. Each rack of web servers is connected to two separate UPS systems, each designed to maintain a consistent level of amperage until the diesel generator takes over. All power redundancies in place are immediate in a failover situation and require no human intervention to become active. For example, no one has to turn on the diesel generator, which has a 30 hour full capacity and a proactive refueling contract with a local supplier. It works in unison with the UPS system, monitoring the power situation and cycling automatically.

With regard to the enviroment, Internal atmospherics are monitored 24x7x365 to ensure the temperature and humidity of the data center are providing an optimal environment for your servers and network equipment.
